The PokerStars Sunday Million had 7,557 entrants last night, making for a total prize pool of $1,511,400, just $11,400 more than the guarantee. Those numbers were down slightly from last week, when numbers had already been the lowest that the Sunday Million had seen since July 6. The winner of the event could expect to pocket at most $186,000 should no deal be made at the final table.

At the $15,000-buy-in Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic at Las Vegas’ Bellagio in 2007, Erick Lindgren picked up pocket 9s under the gun. With blinds at $800-$1,600 plus a $200 ante, Lindgren, an aggressive pro, raised to $4,500.
“I was raising to thin the field and mix it up,” said Lindgren, winner of two World Poker Tour titles.
Three players in late position called, as did Raymond Davis in the big blind.
“When I got four callers,” Lindgren said, “I wanted to flop a 9.”

Kansas City’s Grant Hinkle won $831,462 in a regional World Series tournament in Vegas last month, more money than you or I will make in, well, let’s not even go there.

Just when it looked like the Game Show Network would shift to a pokerless schedule, it has been announced that High Stakes Poker will be back for another season. HSP will begin filming Season Five episodes in September.
“GSN has picked up the option on the fifth season of ‘High Stakes Poker’ and continues to enjoy poker on its air,” said GSN Director of Public Relations Jennifer Minezaki.
Both Gabe Kaplan and A.J. Benza are set to return as hosts. Any additional information, such as schedule, time slot and roster, will be released at a later date.
HSP’s future on GSN looked bleak, as word of a possible shift by the network spread, putting gaming programs on the chopping block. In the end, it seems GSN realized that HSP has spent the last four years as one of the network’s most popular programs.

LAS VEGAS - It takes plenty of confidence and oodles of cash just to play in the World Series of Poker main event, but the world’s best rounders are making things even spicier by raising the stakes against one another.
Gold bracelets command respect for winners of series events, but big-time poker pros Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey added an extra $200,000 incentive for each other to win one or more of the 55 events this year, Negreanu said.
Negreanu’s limit Texas Hold ‘em win earlier this month got him $204,874 in prize money, but his bet with Ivey has nearly doubled that. Ivey can even the score if he wins the main event, a no-limit Texas Hold ‘em tournament that will mean millions of dollars for the winner and certain poker fame.
